Minecraft is celebrating its 15th anniversary with an interactive game that pops up when you search the iconic video game on Google.
"As the best-selling game in history, Minecraft has taken the world by storm, and Google will celebrate this pixelated game with a Google Search delight," Google spokesperson Jas Peterson said in an email sent to USA TODAY.
Google occasionally rolls out Easter eggs, art and interactive games for Google Search, like its animation for the solar eclipse in April.
Minecraft's interactive game features "the mining and exploration portion of the fan-favorite game where users will be able to mine results and discover hidden elements along the way," Peterson said.
Users can trigger the experience by Google searching "Minecraft," "Minecraft Bedrock Edition," "Minecraft Dungeons" and other versions of the game or its main character, Steve.
Live streaming platform Twitch is also celebrating Minecraft's 15th anniversary in numerous ways, including:
Minecraft's success has culminated in another live-action video-game-turned-blockbuster-film project starring actors Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon and Danielle Brooks.
The movie will be directed by Jared Hess, who is known for "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Nacho Libre."
"The malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, prompting a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld," the film's bio on IMDB says.
Minecraft the movie does not have an official release date, but it is scheduled to hit theaters sometime in 2025.
Minecraft creator Mojang Studios announced in October 2023 that the video game had sold over 300 million copies worldwide since its release in 2011, making it one of the best-selling video games in the world, Forbes reported.
While Tetris still arguably holds the title of the best-selling video game of all time thanks to its reported 520 million copies sold, Tetris' original 1985 release spawned several versions over the years, leading some to argue the sales refer to a series and not a stand-alone game.
In this case, reported Forbes, Minecraft could contest the title. Either way, there is no arguing its massive success.
Minecraft became so successful, in fact, in 2014, Mojang Studios and the game's intellectual property were purchased by Microsoft for $2.5 billion.
