It might seem crazy, but Pharrell Williams is telling the story of his life in LEGO form.
Focus Features on Thursday released the first trailer for "Piece by Piece," an animated biopic about the life of the Grammy-winning "Happy" singer told in the style of "The LEGO Movie."
The trailer opens with the LEGO version of Williams on a film set pitching the idea for this very project. "You know what'd be cool is if we told my story with LEGO pieces," he says, only to be met with heavy skepticism.
Williams subsequently begins narrating his life story as the events he describes are depicted using LEGO, making the project look like a unique mix of an animated film and a documentary.
The trailer features some of Williams' hit songs, including "Happy," as well as LEGO versions of Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg.

Focus Features describes "Piece by Piece" as a "unique cinematic experience" following the "evolution of one of music's most innovative minds." Morgan Neville directed the film after helming documentaries like "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" about Fred Rogers and "Roadrunner" about Anthony Bourdain.

In an earlier statement, Neville said that when Williams approached him five years ago with the idea for a LEGO biopic, "it was one of those rare moments where I knew in a second that this was a journey I wanted to go on." He also described "Piece by Piece" as a "new type of film."
Williams, meanwhile, said he couldn't have imagined a better partner than Neville to help execute his "crazy vision," adding, "Building with LEGO bricks encourages us to follow our imagination … who would've thought that playing with these toys as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. It's proof that anyone else can do it too."
"Piece by Piece" will hit theaters on Oct. 11.
